Young Jonn names an EP after London and plays the city the same day.
Dear London is out as he headlines OVO Arena Wembley, a night that sat behind years of refused UK visas. For about a decade, the Ibadan-born hitmaker kept missing UK dates because the applications would not clear. Clearance came late this summer. Tonight is his first London show in roughly ten years, which is why a seven-song tape titled for the city lands with more weight than a Friday drop alone.
He built the 2010s as “the Wicked Producer,” then crossed into the front of the record with Love Is Not Enough, “Dada,” and “Xtra Cool.”
Jiggy Forever and last year’s Blue Disco (Apple Music Nigeria’s albums summit, still carrying Rema and Wizkid on the guest sheet) made the arena booking look like follow-through from a catalogue that already travels.
On “By 4” he draws the line clean: he is looking for money while someone else is looking for love. “Elumelu” turns liquidity into a chant; “Glass in the Air” pushes the dancefloor. Romance still sits on the tape (“Destiny,” “Hold Somebody”), but the mood across Dear London is celebration first.
The project went out under Chocolate City on the morning of the Wembley date. Naming the city and walking into it the same night is the point: the EP is the soundtrack he finally gets to play on the ground.
