Five Days After Zlatan’s Wedding, “Inferno” Ends Its Hook on “Time to Marry”

The first time the hook of “Inferno” comes around, its question (“It’s time to what?”) gets a dance call for an answer: “Jomo!” The second time, about a minute and a half into the song Peruzzi, Zlatan and Shoday put out at midnight, the answer is “Time to marry.” Five days earlier, Zlatan had posted photos from his traditional wedding with the same words.

Zlatan and Davita Lamai held that ceremony in Oniru, Lagos, on October 24, with Davido among the groomsmen. Pulse reported that Zlatan captioned the first set of photos, the couple in coral beads and Benin attire, “IT’S TIME TO MARRY.” At 12:05 am today, his post for the song was three words long: “Food is ready.”

Peruzzi had tried to set the terms before anyone heard it. “This Song Is About Love and Not Fornication Pls & Pls,” he wrote on October 26, the day he gave “Inferno” its date, after a week of studio clips that we followed here. The song mostly backs him up. It also has a verse that goes “And when it’s time to fornicate madam / Na your back I go dey paste madam,” a few lines after “Girl I go loyal loyal.” In 2020, The NATIVE wrote that Peruzzi has a “flair for romantic cuts that straddle the line between heartfelt, raunchy and catchy.” Six years on, he still can’t pick one, and the disclaimer reads like he knew it.

The record wastes no time. It opens on the chant (“Oya baby baby / Biggy biggy / Shake what? Shake body”), and the chorus is mostly vowels, a long “Ahhhh ouuu” under “Could this be love? / You do me all.” Between them come the pickup lines: begging for love “like Bambiala,” calling her “my Rihanna,” a turn into Igbo for “Asampete nwanyi oma.” When the hook returns, ad-libs answer every line (“Shake it,” “don’t break it”) before it lands on marriage. The whole thing runs under three minutes, and one fan replied to Peruzzi that “that song short o.”

Zlatan’s rapped verse is where the noise started. Between “Light up my world Michael Faraday” and a promise to cover any bill she brings, he raps “I no be Vincent, I no fit mast**bate,” a line people were already quoting on X on October 27, the night Zlatan posted a snippet with the date. Listeners on X took it as a shot at VeryDarkMan, whose first name is Vincent. Zlatan hasn’t said who it’s about.

Peruzzi had a number before 1 am. “11k Shazams In Less Than 1 Hour,” he posted at 12:55 am. Shoday, the third voice, was still playing it at 6:46 am: “Na wetin I dey chop since 12am be this!”

Peruzzi and Zlatan last did this together on “Bayi Bayi” in 2019, a Northboi production that The NATIVE noted had already “made rounds on social media” through a studio clip before release. “Inferno” took the same road with Shoday added. None of the three has named a producer yet, and Peruzzi’s YouTube upload is the official audio, with the full lyrics in the description.
