Christmas in Lagos usually means two kinds of party: the club night that runs into the early hours, and the family owambe where everyone turns up in matching fabric. This year, Detty December Fest is putting both on its programme, back to back.
The festival, produced by Livespot, has added DJ Tunez & Friends on Christmas Eve, Thursday, December 24, and Tungba Christmas on Christmas Day, Friday, December 25. Both nights sit inside the festival’s second edition, which runs from December 18 to 30, with Wizkid headlining the opening night on December 18.
DJ Tunez has been Wizkid’s official DJ since 2015, and most listeners know him from “Iskaba,” his record with Wande Coal. He was named Best DJ Africa at the 2026 African Muzik Magazine Awards. Christmas Eve is his night: a DJ-led party, with the friends joining him still to be named through the festival’s official channels.
Tungba Christmas takes the owambe off the wedding and birthday circuit and moves it onto a festival stage. The organisers say the night will mix live music and DJ sets with the dressing that comes with a Nigerian party, a vintage-car parade and on-the-spot portraits. The poster places it at Detty December Village in Lagos. It is pitched at families, Lagos residents, visitors and Nigerians coming home from abroad for the holidays.
“Beyond the excitement of live music, there is an opportunity to celebrate the traditions, shared experiences and sense of home that make this time of year so important to people,” said Deola Art Alade, the festival’s convener.
The festival’s debut edition drew more than 40,000 people, with Gunna, Busta Rhymes, Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal and Shenseea on the bill. This year it splits into two stages: the main Festival stage for headline acts and the Pulse stage for African music, culture and nightlife. Across 13 days, the programme also lists aerial shows, emerging talent showcases, food and nightlife.
The money around the season is large. MO Africa Co.’s report The Economics of Euphoria: Detty December 2025 put consumer spending across that December at about ₦396.5 billion.
Tickets for DJ Tunez & Friends start at ₦25,000, and Tungba Christmas starts at ₦35,000. Both are on sale at tix.dot360.co/org/livespot/detty-december.
