“If it wasn’t for my performance, tell me what would I do?” BNXN asks on “Eja Meja,” the Asake collaboration that opens his Still In Charge EP. Last night at Trace Live in Lagos, he gave the performance away to two fans and sprayed them while they sang it.
In the clip, a woman in white and a man in a striped shirt and cap each hold a mic and run the song with his live band, while BNXN moves between them peeling off notes until the man is on his knees and the stage floor is carpeted in cash.
The song came out on July 29 as his first record with Asake, and it was built around spending. Asake sings, “Dem say money na vanity / So I carry the vanity spend am on vanity.” BNXN’s verse is the grateful half, thanking God for “His special grace” and admitting he’s “like Oliver Twist ’cause I still wanted more for my life.” On the record, all that money stays with the two men singing, but at Terra Kulture it went to the two people holding the mics.
Trace Live with BNXN, held at Terra Kulture Arena in Victoria Island and built around his Captain album, aired on TRACE Urban last night. He opened with “Pidgin & English” and worked through “Frank Sinatra,” “Rum & Soda,” “Back Outside,” “Very Soon,” “POE” and “If You Like,” the Still In Charge closer that TRACE’s own account said sent the crowd crazy. Another TRACE clip shows fans on their knees gathering notes off the floor under a screen that reads STILL IN CHARGE.
Performing is the part of the job he talks about with the most warmth. Asked which songs he enjoys performing most, he named “Phenomena” as the solo record and “Very Soon,” his song with FOLA, as the feature, in a 2026 interview. Both “Very Soon” and “Back Outside,” his April record with Sarz, made last night’s set.
His last big night in Lagos made the news for the wrong reasons. Fans with valid tickets were turned away from The Captain Experience at Landmark last December, and BNXN apologised the next morning, writing that “the show organizers prioritized profit over the safety of the fans.” Ten months later, the clip everyone is passing around from his next big Lagos stage has the cash moving toward the crowd. By this afternoon, one repost of it alone had passed 2,500 likes.
The EP is called Still In Charge, and for a couple of minutes last night, he happily wasn’t.
