CKay’s 2021 record “emiliana” has now crossed 300 million streams on Spotify, marking both a personal milestone and another sign of African music’s expanding global influence.
With this achievement, “emiliana” becomes CKay’s third song to surpass 300 million streams on the platform, joining “love nwantiti” and its DJ Yo! and AX’EL remix. The original “love nwantiti” has already exceeded one billion streams, placing CKay among a select group of African artists to reach that mark with a solo record.
Unlike many viral hits, “emiliana” built its success gradually. Released in December 2021, the song gained traction through its melodic intimacy and emotional depth, charting across Europe and Africa, including a top ten peak in France where it later earned platinum certification. Its music video further amplified its reach, helping it grow steadily across multiple markets.
Central to CKay’s appeal is his self-defined Emo-Afrobeats sound, which blends African rhythms with emotion driven songwriting. This approach has allowed his music to resonate with a global audience, contributing to a catalogue that has now amassed over two and a half billion streams on Spotify. “emiliana” stands as another strong pillar within that growing body of work.
More than just a streaming milestone, this moment reflects the consistency of CKay’s artistry. While many songs rise quickly and fade, he has built a catalogue of records that continue to perform years after release. With three independently successful global hits, CKay’s trajectory points to a lasting legacy rather than a fleeting moment.
