Wizkid’s “Morayo” Surpasses 500 Million Streams on Spotify

The 2024 tribute album joins Made in Lagos in an elite tier of Wizkid’s catalogue on the platform.

Wizkid’s sixth studio album, Morayo, has surpassed 500 million streams on Spotify, making it the second project in his catalogue to reach the milestone on the platform. Released on 22 November 2024 through RCA Records and Starboy Entertainment, the 16-track album now stands alongside Made in Lagos as one of Wizkid’s biggest streaming achievements.

The album is one of the most personal projects of Wizkid’s career. Morayo is named after his late mother, Juliana Morayo Balogun, who passed away in London in August 2023. The Yoruba word “Morayo” translates to “I see joy,” and the album cover is a cropped image of her. Production on the project was primarily handled by longtime collaborator P2J, and the album features guest appearances from Asake, Brent Faiyaz, Jazmine Sullivan, Anaïs Cardot, and Tiakola.

The album hit the ground running from the moment it dropped. Morayo broke the record for the biggest opening day streams for an African album on Spotify and became the first album in history to have every single track surpass 500,000 streams within its first 24 hours. It also set a new benchmark for the highest opening week streams for an African album on the platform, surpassing the previous record held by South Africa’s Tyla. Both lead singles, “Piece of My Heart” featuring Brent Faiyaz and “Kese (Dance),” broke the record for the biggest single debut in Spotify Nigeria history upon their respective releases.

Critically, the project earned its commercial performance. Reviews described it as Wizkid at his clear-eyed best, blending his neo-R&B aesthetics with the percussive grit of his Afropop roots. Standout moments include the soulful “Piece of My Heart,” the collaborative energy of “Bad Girl” with Asake, and the reflective “A Million Blessings,” on which Wizkid takes stock of his career and legacy.

The 500 million milestone puts Morayo in the company of Made in Lagos, which has since surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify. The fact that Morayo has now crossed 500 million just continues to buttress the strength of Wizkid’s draw as a streaming artist and the best of the very best.

The milestone adds to what has been a historic stretch for Wizkid on Spotify. In January 2026, he became the first African artist in Spotify history to surpass 10 billion streams across all credits, the first to reach every billion-stream milestone from 1 billion to 10 billion on the platform. Morayo crossing 500 million is another marker in a catalogue that continues to grow in stature and reach, long after individual album cycles have ended.
