Adekunle Gold Wants Boxing Day at the National Theatre Again

Before Adekunle Gold told anyone the date, he put the question on billboards. Across Lagos, his name sat over one line: “Who made history at the National Theatre on the 26th December 2025?”

He did, and now he wants the sequel.

Adekunle Gold: The Greatest Showman is set for Saturday, December 26, at the National Theatre in Lagos, the same hall on the same night as last year. The show’s ticket page runs it from 6PM to 11PM, with the MUSON Orchestra and his band, The 79th Element, behind him, and the dress code is black tie again. Presale opens at 10AM on Thursday, November 5, and closes at 9AM the next morning, an hour before general sale starts at 10AM on Friday, November 6. Clear Promotions is on the poster.

The billboards were selling a memory, and it is a good one. Last December 26, two months after the renovated theatre reopened as the Wole Soyinka Centre for Culture and Creative Arts, Adekunle Gold became the first artist to headline a concert there, and he sold it out. Olamide came out as host and introduced him in a mock-posh voice as “the big fish, AG Baby.” He opened with “Big Fish,” a 55-piece orchestra behind him. Davido walked on for “Only God Can Save Me” and “High,” and Adewale Ayuba and Yinka Ayefele joined him for “Many People,” three generations of Lagos music on one stage.

What has changed is the name on the bill. Last year’s night went out under Fuji, the album he had just released, so the concert doubled as its launch. This year no new album sits on the poster. The title is about him, the man in the floating jacket who held that hall for a night, and the bet is that Lagos will dress up and pay for the show itself.

Away from Lagos, his year has run through rooms like London’s Blue Note, where he was booked to headline Blue Jazz Fest as the first Afrobeats act on that stage. Back home, the pitch is simpler. Same hall, same date, and his own name in red across the top of the poster.

“Don’t stop dreaming, keep daring to be different, do everything on your own terms,” he told that crowd last year. Booking the night again is him taking his own advice.
