To put the number in perspective, the next best is Tems, with five songs past 300 million. Then CKay with three. Wizkid, Rema, and Ayra Starr are tied at two apiece. Burna isn’t just leading, he’s nearly doubled the artist right behind him, and he’s more than tripled almost everyone else on the list.
What makes this worth noting is the range of songs getting him there. Burna’s catalog spans afrobeats, dancehall, alte, and now trap-adjacent collaborations like “wgft” with Gunna. He isn’t repeating one formula and riding it nine times. He’s proven that whatever lane he steps into, streaming numbers follow, which says as much about his instinct for a hit as it does about the strength of his global fanbase.
It also speaks more about where Nigerian music sits on the world stage right now. A decade ago, a Nigerian artist cracking 300 million streams on a single song was a milestone worth a headline on its own. Now we’re talking about one artist doing it nine separate times, and the conversation has shifted from “can Nigerian music travel” to “who’s catching up to Burna Boy.”
Tems remains the closest challenger, and given her trajectory since “Free Mind” and her Grammy recognition, five could easily become six or seven before the year is out. CKay’s “Love Nwantiti” alone has done heavy lifting for his three. With Rema, Wizkid, and Ayra having some catching up to do.
For now though, this is Burna’s list to lead, and the gap suggests he might be building something closer to a permanent ceiling than a temporary record, cause he has barely scratched the surface of his peak.
