On Clarity of Mind, “Canada Breeze” is the first place Omah Lay names the night he lost a relationship and a Grammy category in the same breath.
The official video for that song is out.
The cut opens on jagged drums and a line about flying from January to January without arriving. Then he breathes a “Canada breeze,” grows spiritually, and says last year’s worries are behind him. Midway, the album stops hedging: “When I been lost my bae and award all in one day.” Native Mag’s April review of the album flagged that line as the first time the project turns the Grammy-night breakup into art. In a London interview ahead of the release, Omah said the split landed while Justin Bieber was onstage at the Grammys. “Two performers,” he called it.
Six months after Clarity of Mind arrived in April, Omah posted the “Canada Breeze” video himself. The clip runs with the record: warm haze, dancers in white face paint, Omah in the middle of the line. The Clarity of Mind World Tour opened in Edmonton on Sep 25; the video lands while that run is still live. On the track, Canada is spiritual weather. The road just happens to have started there.
Clarity of Mind was the album he framed as rest turning into clarity after Boy Alone: solitude, family, recording through the quiet. “Canada Breeze” is where that peace still has to say what it cost. The video puts a face on the confession the album already made.
