Update, 9:53 a.m.: 9 is now No. 1 on Apple Music’s albums chart in Nigeria, ahead of Seyi Vibez’s SWAGUU, and “2am in toronto” has climbed to No. 38. All 14 tracks are still in the Top 100.
Less than nine hours after FOLA’s second album came out, Nigeria was still playing the songs it already knew from it. At 8:52 this morning, all 14 tracks on 9 were in Apple Music’s Top 100 songs chart for Nigeria, and the five he released before the album were the highest of them. “attention!” was at No. 12, “treat u right” with Ayra Starr at No. 15, “it’s over” with Bella Shmurda and Zlatan at No. 18, “miss u ii (nriri)” at No. 22 and “fine ting” at No. 32.
The other nine start at No. 51.
That No. 51 is “2am in toronto,” FOLA’s duet with Davido, and it leads the new songs by eight places. Davido and BNXN were already all over FOLA’s morning: his two highest songs on the chart are his turns on their records, BNXN’s “Shamaya” at No. 9 and Davido’s “B4 B4” at No. 11. The BNXN duet on 9, “my type,” sits further down at No. 64, after the opener “awade” at No. 59. “waf,” the song that leaked in May, and “crime,” the 2Baba remake, are at No. 66 and No. 69, and both have a longer history than one morning of streams.
The album itself is No. 2 on Apple’s albums chart in Nigeria, behind Seyi Vibez’s SWAGUU, whose “Back 2 U” and “GTA” still hold the top two songs. An hour earlier, neither “2am in toronto” nor “waf” was in the Top 100 at all.
