The milestone adds to a growing list of SNEP plaques that already includes Diamond certifications for “One Dance” and “Bella,” alongside Gold honors for “Boom” and his Grammy-nominated “Essence” with Tems.
Released in March 2017 as the third single from Wizkid’s album Sounds from the Other Side, “Come Closer” marked his third collaboration with Drake following “One Dance” and stands as one of the clearest examples of how his catalog keeps finding new audiences years after release. The track has already picked up Platinum certification in the United Kingdom after crossing 600,000 combined sales and streaming units, alongside Platinum status in the United States from the RIAA after surpassing a million units. In Canada, it holds a double Platinum plaque with over 160,000 units, while South Africa has certified it triple Platinum. Switzerland added a Gold certification of its own after the song crossed 10,000 units there.
On streaming platforms, the song has climbed past 169 million streams on Spotify. It originally peaked at number 58 on the UK Singles Chart and number 54 on the Canadian Hot 100, both solid showings for what was then still a fairly new sound breaking into Western markets.
