Davido and Aya Nakamura’s “Yaya” is No. 1 on France’s Shazam chart. French phones are asking for the Oriadé cut first, two and a half months after the album, and eight years after she put him on “Gang.”
In 2018, on Aya’s Nakamura, “Gang” put Davido in her France lane. The song peaked at No. 21 on the French singles chart and later went SNEP gold. This time the hosting is reversed. “Yaya” is track ten on Davido’s Oriadé, which arrived July 31, with Aya as the guest and Willis, Rozzz, Major AJ, Armageddon, and Pete on the boards.
French radio and RFI’s Afro-Club were already calling the collab a summer event in early August. The Shazam climb took longer. Kworb’s France list has “Yaya” at No. 1 today, up three places. It is also No. 1 on Shazam in the UAE, and No. 79 Worldwide, up nineteen.
Shazam counts the songs rooms identify. That is still where this pair is winning first: in Aya’s country, on the chart that tracks what people hear and look up.
