Victony has crossed 1.6 billion streams across all credits on Spotify, and the way the number has moved over the last two months says as much as the number itself. The singer reached 1.5 billion in late August, right as his sophomore album Starlife landed. Adding another 100 million streams in roughly two months is a steady climb, with no spike to explain it.
Starlife arrived on August 21 as a 15-track project and the follow-up to his 2024 debut, Stubborn. The reception was immediate. It opened with 2.13 million streams on Spotify Nigeria on day one, closed its first week with 8.44 million on the platform in Nigeria, and pulled 13.72 million globally in its opening week. It debuted at No. 2 on Spotify’s Global Top Albums Chart, topped the Apple Music Nigeria albums chart, and charted in 75 countries on Apple Music, including No. 1 spots in seven of them. Along the way, Victony logged a career-best single day of 4.09 million Spotify streams.
That album run feeds this milestone directly. Starlife has since passed 100 million Spotify streams, making it his third project to clear that mark and one of seven Nigerian projects released this year to do so. A good share of the climb from 1.5 billion to 1.6 billion has come from the album’s tracks, with “Slick” doing the heaviest lifting. The single now sits past 50 million streams and is still pulling hundreds of thousands of plays a day.
What keeps the total stable is the catalogue behind the new music. “Soweto” remains the backbone, with its original and sped-up versions together holding more than half a billion streams. Starlife has not replaced that foundation. It has given listeners a fresh reason to come back to it, and brought in new ones who then work backwards through his older records.
For an artist who started the year without a sophomore album planned, 1.6 billion streams is a strong marker of where Victony stands. The next stretch looks set to be about how quickly he gets to the next billion.
