Twelve weeks after it came out, Davido’s “Oriadé” is back among the ten most-played albums on Apple Music in Nigeria.
The album returned to Apple Music Nigeria’s Top Albums at No. 10 when the chart updated at 21:09 WAT this evening, taking the place of Omah Lay’s “CLARITY OF MIND.” Twenty minutes earlier, at 20:50, it sat outside the top 10.
“Oriadé” arrived July 31 as Davido’s sixth studio album, 13 songs long. The guest list runs from Black Sherif on “Amazing Grace” to Aya Nakamura on “Yaya,” Leon Thomas on “Tell Everybody,” Mayorkun and FOLA on “B4 B4,” and Llona on the closer, “My Light.”
Davido framed the title around where he started. “Omo Baba Olowo is a Yoruba term but my following four were all in English,” he told Apple Music. “For Oriadé, I wanted to get back to my roots. It’s a title that refers to your destiny.”
The record moves between his Afro-R&B love songs, “Julie” and the Pheelz-produced “Constantly,” and the Afro-house of “I Know Who I Be,” built with Lesotho-born producer JAZZWRLD and South African producer GL_Ceejay. “Guide” carries a Yoruba prayer that he translates for Apple Music as “God take control, I give you my body and soul.”
The return comes with the album’s live run still ahead. Davido plays three nights of Oriadé: The Residency at the National Theatre in Lagos, December 17 to 19, then closes his December at the Calabar Carnival on December 29. Both shows were announced before this evening’s chart return.
