Wizkid has been confirmed as the first headliner for Detty December Fest 2026, with the Afrobeats superstar set to open the festival’s Grand Opening Concert on Friday, December 18.
Festival organisers Livespot360 made the announcement on Thursday via the event’s official Instagram page, describing the show as the moment that kicks off Lagos’s biggest annual party season. “The countdown to December begins. Wizkid headlines the opening night of Detty December Fest 2026,” the organisers wrote, framing the concert as an unmissable cultural moment for the city.
The Grand Opening Concert takes place at 6 pm at the Detty December Village in Lagos, launching a 13-day festival that runs through December 30. This year’s edition introduces a major format change: a second stage. Wizkid will headline the main Festival Stage, while the newly added Pulse Stage will run throughout the festival’s duration, spotlighting emerging artists and breakthrough talents shaping the next generation of African music.
Detty December Fest co-founded by Darey Art Alade, debuted in 2025, drawing more than 40,000 festivalgoers to Ilubirin for a lineup that included Busta Rhymes, Gunna, Tiwa Savage, Shenseea, Diamond Platnumz, Phyno, Wande Coal, Fave, Young Jonn, Qing Madi, Ice Prince and Juma Jux, with Wizkid himself among last year’s performers too. This year, Livespot360 is positioning him as the marquee name to formally open the season.
Wizkid’s return to the Detty December stage caps a comparatively quiet year for the singer, following an extensive run behind his last album Morayo, which peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard World Albums chart. He kept his collaborative streak alive over the past year up until mid 2026, with the Ayra Starr joint earning a nomination for Best African Music Performance at the 2026 Grammys. The opening night slot arrives as fans continue to anticipate his next studio album, his seventh.
Organisers say additional headliners for both stages will be announced in the coming weeks. Tickets for the opening concert are already on sale via the festival’s official website, with General Access priced at N50,000, Golden Circle at N150,000, and VIP Standing at N300,000; tables are available on request through the event’s concierge service.
Detty December has grown into a fixture of Lagos’s December calendar, drawing music lovers from across Nigeria, the wider continent and the diaspora as the city transforms into a hub of concerts, parties and cultural programming through the festive season.
