Adekunle Gold has officially entered Spotify’s Billion Club. The singer has now passed 1 billion streams across all his credits on the platform, making him the 24th Nigerian artist to reach the mark.
The figure covers everything he has put his name to on Spotify, from his own solo releases to collaborations and features. That detail matters, because collaboration has been a big part of his story. Records like “Party No Dey Stop” with Zinoleesky showed how well his sound travels when he shares the booth.
It is a long way from 2014, when “Sade” went viral and led to his 2015 signing with Olamide’s YBNL Nation. He has since moved through highlife-tinged pop, fuji experiments and wide-open Afro-fusion. The albums “Catch Me If You Can” in 2022 and “Tequila Ever After” in 2023 pushed his reach further, with the United States among his biggest streaming markets.
The milestone also reflects how far Nigerian music has come on streaming platforms. Rema’s “Calm Down” became the first African song to cross a billion streams in 2023, and the list of Nigerian acts in the club keeps growing. Adekunle Gold now joins that company on the strength of a catalogue built over more than a decade.
For fans who have followed him from the early days, it is a well-earned plaque. Expect the numbers to keep climbing as his catalogue grows.
