Ayra Starr has officially announced the title of her highly anticipated third studio album, revealing it as “Starr Girl” during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show. The announcement came during what was also a landmark moment for the Nigerian singer, marking her debut on US daytime television.
She made her entrance through the show’s signature spirit tunnel, navigating a choreographed corridor lined with fans and crew delivering a personalised chant, before stepping onto the purple carpet in a glossy plum-coloured latex midi dress. The appearance was a visual and cultural statement in itself, one that signalled the full-scale arrival of a new album era.
The album announcement caps months of building anticipation around Ayra Starr’s next project. As far back as January 2026, the Mavin Records and Roc Nation signee had confirmed that her third studio album was complete and scheduled for release this year, with the update emerging through a feature in Spotify’s “Our Frequency” zine.
The popstar had since been steadily rolling out material ahead of the full project, releasing “Where Do We Go” in March 2026 and appearing on “Aye Kan (Are You Coming Back?)” from Angélique Kidjo’s album Hope!!, before winning Best International Act at the MOBO Awards on March 26, becoming the first African artist to claim the category in back-to-back years.
Speaking about the creative direction of the record, she described it as a deeply personal body of work, saying she is “literally becoming a woman” and that the growth is audible in the music, with her approach centring on sonic experimentation and rediscovering the joy of making music without overthinking it.
“Starr Girl” arrives as the follow-up to a record-setting second album. Her 2024 project “The Year I Turned 21” became the first album by a Nigerian female artist to surpass one billion streams on Spotify, debuted on both the US Billboard 200 and the UK Official Albums Chart, and was preceded by smash singles including “Hot Body,” which surpassed 35 million Spotify streams, and “Who’s Dat Girl” featuring Rema, which crossed 30 million.
With the album title now public and momentum firmly behind her, “Starr Girl” is shaping up to be the defining statement of Ayra Starr’s career so far.
